From its beginnings in 1922, to a program offering students the opportunity to perform in one of six orchestras, the UAHS Strings program allows students to participate in various festivals and adjudicated events each year.  The UAHS Orchestra have performed at Boston Symphony Hall, Carnegie Hall, Detroit Symphony Hall, Toronto, Chicago, the Bahamas, China, and New York at the United Nations.  In 2017, the UAHS Orchestras represented Ohio at the commemoration events for the 75th Anniversary of the bombing of Pearl Harbor.  In Spring 2018, the UAHS Symphony Strings performed the world premiere of Golden, a newly commissioned piece by local composer Richard Jordan Smoot in honor of the Upper Arlington 2018 Centennial Celebration.  Last February, the UAHS Orchestras participated in a Disney Performing Arts Workshop and recorded a portion of a Disney Animated feature film in a professional studio environment.  In July 2020, the Symphony Strings will travel to Scotland to participate in the Stirling Bridge Festival, a 5-day celebration of music and culture from the four corners of the world, where they will contribute in a series of individual, shared and gala performances.  We look forward to our centennial in 2022!

The UAHS Band Program consists of the Golden Bear Marching Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Band, and Pep Band.
The Golden Bear Marching Band is a traditional military style show band, similar in style to the OSU Marching Band, which performs a new show for each home game and is committed to the entertainment of the crowd and enthusiastic support of the football team.  Performing at more than 50 events each year, the band program is a dynamic and active part of the community.  Students have the opportunity to work with nationally known clinicians and to perform at national events such as the Gator Bowl, Liberty Bowl, Orange Bowl, Outback Bowl, Sugar Bowl and the Russell Athletic Bowl.  They also perform at festivals and events throughout the year.  In December 2017, the Golden Bear Marching Band had the distinct honor of traveling to Phoenix to march in the Fiesta Bowl Parade.  They represented Upper Arlington well, earning a 2nd place high school band award based on music and marching.  While in Phoenix, the band toured the Musical Instrument Museum and also played for a homeless family shelter in the area.  Celebrating its 90th year, the UAMB will travel to Orlando to march down Main Street in the Walt Disney World Parade on March 14, 2020.
